Budget round tours in Fjord Norway for groups travelling on their own

We are presenting a selection of some of our most popular – and classic – itineraries for round trips in the southern part of Norway, with a special emphasis on the fjord area and many of the world famous scenic highlights.

Fjords and mountains

Duration 7 days/6 nights

Day 1: Oslo
Arrival Oslo. Take a city sithseeing tour of Oslo including the Norwegian Folk Museum, The Viking ships, Kon-Tiki and Ra Raft and the Vigeland Sculpture Park.
Hostel accomodation: Oslo Hostel Holtekilen

Day 2: Oslo - Flåm (approx 335 km)
Breakfast. Drive through the Hallingdal valley to Hol. Cross the mountain and descend the breathtaking road to Aurland and from there a short drive to Flåm. Spend the night at Flåm Hostel

Day 3: Flåm - Bergen (approx 170 km)
Breakfast. Drive via Voss to Bergen. Spend the night at Bergen Vandrerhjem Montana.

Day 4: Bergen
Breakfast. Visit Bergen after breakfast. The Fish Market, Bryggen Warf, The Aquarium. A visit to composer E. Grieg's home is higly recommended.

Day 5: Bergen - Voss (approx 170 km)
Breakfast. Drive to Voss along the Hardangerfjord. A stop at Norheimsund to see the waterfall Steindalsfossen is recommended. Outside Øystese there is a newly opened visitor centre for salmon breeding - one of Norway's fastest growing exports today. Continue to Voss via Granvin.

Day 6: Voss - Geilo (approx 150 km)
Breakfast. A visit to the Voss Church or Voss Folk Museum is recommended before heading for Geilo. Drive direction Brimnes and take the ferry across the Hardangerfjord to Bruravik. From Bruravik via Eidfjord and up the magninficent Måbødalen valley. Make a stop at the top for a visit to Vøringsfossen Waterfall - one of the highest waterfalls in Norway.

Day 7: Geilo - Oslo (approx 240 km)
Breakfast. Drive down the broad and open Hallingdal valley to Oslo. Suggested roundtrip end.

Grand circular trip - through Fjord Norway

Duration 10 days/ 9 nights

Day 1: Oslo
Arrival Oslo. Suggested sightseeing in Oslo includes the Norwegian Folk Museum, The Viking Ships, The Kon-Tiki and Ra Raft.

Day 2: Oslo - Mjølfjell (approx 420 km)
Breakfast. Leave Oslo and drive through fertile pleasant farming country of Ringerike and Hallingdal valley to Geilo. Cross the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, passing the impressive waterfall Vøringsfossen before reaching the fruit growing district of Hardanger. Cross the Hardangerfjord Bruravik- Brimnes and continue to Mjølfjell. Spend the night at Mjølfjell Hostel

Day 3: Mjølfjell - Bergen (approx 133 km)
Breakfast. On the way from Voss to Bergen make a stop at the home of the composer Edvard Grieg. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Bergen
Breakfast. Visit Bergen after breakfast. The fish market, Bryggen Warf and the Aquarium. A visit to Mount Fløyen with the funicular is highly recommended. Spend the night at Bergen Montana Hostel.

Day 5: Bergen - Stryn (approx 300 km)
Breakfast. Drive the coastal route via Førde and Jølster. Before arriving in Stryn, walk up to the Briksdalen glacier - one of the most impressive glaciers in Norway.

Day 6: Stryn - Runde (approx 130 km)
Breakfast. Drive via Nordfjordeid to Volda. Take the deepest underwater tunnel in the world (287 m below sea level) on the way to the famous bird island Runde. Spend the night at Runde Hostel

Day 7: Runde - Molde (approx 140 km)
Drive to Ålesund for a stop to see the Art Nouveau stylecity and perhaps the Aquarium. From Ålesund to Molde - the city of roses and Jazz. Spend the night at Molde Hostel

Day 8: Molde - Åndalsnes (approx 60 km)
Breakfast. A short drive to Åndalsnes. Visit the famous trollstigen Road, in the heart of Romsdal, one of the most visited attractions in Norway. The mountains which encircle the Trollstigen road are enormous.

Day 9: Åndalsnes - Lillehammer (approx 270 km)
Breakfast. Drive through romantic Gudrbrandsdal valley to Lillehammer, the host city of the 1994 olympic winter games. Visit the open air museum Maihaugen.

Day 10: Lillehammer - Oslo (approx 185 km)
Breakfast. Drive along the shores of Norway's biggest lake Mjøsa before arriving in Oslo.

Fjords and valleys

Duration: 7 days/ 6 nights

Day 1: Kristiansand/Egersund – Karmøy (approx 320 km)
Arrival Kristiansand or Egersund in the morning by ferry from Denmark. Take E39 and head for Stavanger. A short stop in Stavanger for a stroll along the inner harbour area. Leave Stavanger and head for Mekjavik for ferry to Skudeneshavn. A short drive to Karmøy Hostel at Kopervik.

Day 2: Karmøy
Breakfast at hostel. We suggest a day trip to Haugesund, a typical coast town in Norway.
A visit to the Norwegian Historical Centre at Karmøy (incl the Viking Museum) can be recommended.

Day 3: Karmøy – Hardanger (approx 180 km)
Breakfast at hostel. Leave for Hardanger via Haugesund , take E134. On the way to Hardanger (Lofthus Hostel), you will pass one on the most magnificent Norwegian waterfalls – Låtefoss. Make a short stop in Odda. From Odda to Lofthus ( the composer E.Grieg had his summer place in Lofthus, where he composed some of his most important pieces)

Day 4: Hardanger(Lofthus) – Bergen (approx 150 km)
Breakfast. Drive along the fjord to Kinsarvik and take the ferry to Kvanndal. From Kvanndal along the beautiful Hardangerfjord to Bergen. Make a stop in Norheimsund and visit the Steindalsfossen waterfall. From Norheimsund to Bergen.

Day 5: Bergen - Sogndal (approx 220 km)
Breakfast. After an early breakfast go to the city centre and explore the Fish market, the Bryggen Wharf (the old hanseatic part of Bergen) and/or take the funicular up to Mount Fløyen with perfect views over the city. Leave Bergen latest 2pm and drive via Voss across the Vikafjell mountain to Sogndal.

Day 6: Sogndal - Oslo (approx 336 km)
Breakfast. Drive via Lærdal - a visit to Borgund stave church outside Lærdal is highly recommended- through Hemsedal and down Hallingdal valley to Oslo.

Day 7: Oslo
Breakfast. Explore Oslo. End of the roundtrip.

Capitals, fjords and mountains

Duration: 8 days/7 nights

Day 1: Kristiansand - Karmøy (approx 320 km)
Arrive in the morning with ferry from Denmark. Drive to Stavanger for a stop. Explore the inner city and harbour area of the fourth largest city in Norway (designated 2008 European Capital of Culture). Leave Stanvanger and head for Mekjavik for ferry to Skudeneshavn. A short drive to Karmøy Hostel at Kopervik.

Day 2: Karmøy - Bergen (approx 160 km)
Breakfast. On the way make a stop in Haugesund - one of the most typical costal cities in Western Norway. A visit to Haraldshaugen - the burial site of the Viking King Harald Hårfagre, who was the king who unified Norway - is recommended. From Haugesund via the island Stord and ferry Sandvikvåg to Halhjem, from Halhjem to Bergen. Spend the night at Bergen Montana Hostel

Day 3: Bergen

Visit Bergen after breakfast. Fish market, Bryggen Wharf and The Aquarium. A visit to mount Fløyen by the funicular is highly recommended. A visit to compsor Evard Grieg's home will also be possible.

Day 4: Bergen - Stryn (approx 300 km)
Breakfast. Head for Stryn on the costal route. A visit to the Briksdalen glacier before arriving Stryn is recommended. Spend the night at Stryn Hostel

Day 5: Stryn - Borlaug (approx 220 km)
Breakfast. Drive south via Skei and Fjærland - a visit to the glacier museum in Fjærland is recommended. Via Sogndal to Lærdal. Outside Lærdal make a stop at the famous Borgund stave church. Spend the night at Borlaug Hostel

Day 6: Borlaug - Oslo (approx 275 km)
Breakfast. Drive via Hemsedal down the Hallingdal valley to Oslo. Spend the night at Oslo Hostel Holtekilen

Day 7: Oslo
Breakfast. Take a morning sightseeing tour of Oslo including the Norwegian Folk Museum, The Viking Ships, Kon-Tiki and Ra-Raft and The Vigeland Sculpture Park. Afternoon at leisure. Spend the night at Oslo Hostel Holtekilen

Day 8:
Breakfast. Suggested roundtrip end.

Norwegian highlights

Duration 8 days/ 7 nights

Day 1: Kristiansand - Preikestolen (approx 250 km)
Arrive in the morning by ferry from Denmark and head for Preikestolen. Spend the night at Preikestolen Hostel

Day 2: Preikestolen
Breakfast. Today is a day for walking (no guide required) to the Pulpit rock. It is a beautiful walk which everyone in normal physical shape can do. The walk talkes totally 5-6 hours. Normal good outdoor clothing/footwear is necessary.

Day 3: Preikestolen - Bergen (approx 250 km)
Breakfast. Take the ferry to Stavanger. Make a 2 hour stop in Stavanger for a city sightseeing. Leave Stavanger and drive north on the costal route to Bergen. Spend the night at Bergen Montana Hostel

Day 4: Bergen - Flåm (approx 170 km)
Early breakfast. Take a 4-5 hour tour of Bergen. Visit the famous Fish Market, the Bryggen Wharf and Mount Fløyen (by funicular). A visit to the composer E. Grieg's home is also possible. Leave Bergen latest 3pm and go to Flåm via Voss.

Day 5: Flåm

Breakfast. We recommend taking the world famous Flåm Railroad up to Myrdal - a train journey you will never forget! From Myrdal the group can walk back to Flåm - mostly downhill and approx 20 km.

Day 6: Flåm - Oslo (approx 335 km)
Breakfast. Go via one of the longest tunnels in the world (25 km) to Lærdal. Just outside Lærdal make a stop at the famous Borgund stave church. Drive through Hemsedal and Hallingdal valley to Oslo. Spend the night at Oslo Hostel Holtekilen

Day 7: Oslo
Breakfast. Suggested morning sightseeing tour of Oslo including the Norwegian Folk Museum, The Viking Ships, Kon-Tiki and Ra-Raft and The Vigeland Sculpture Park. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 8:
