Different practice across national borders
Some countries require a Hostelling International membership card if a guest may stay at a hostel. There are also variations
within HI organizations whether or not a national organization operates with member discounts to members or a fee to persons

There are no requirements for admission to membership, and most HI hostels offer one-day memberships where a membership is
required. HI Norway urges people to purchase a HI membership in your country before you travel abroad.
Member benefits with the Hostelling International membership card
Members of different HI national organization are fully-valued members of HI and Norske Vandrerhjem/ HI Norway. The HI membership
card gives members access to a variety of membership benefits and discounts worldwide. Your membership card is required to
access the benefits. Please check the membership benefits for what applies to your destination.

Please note, if you would like to receive "full discount" on private rooms at the HI hostels in Norway all people that has
turned 16 years old has to have a membership in Hostelling International. Children under the age of 16 years old are included
on the memberships of their co-travellers.
The membership benefit in Norway is a minimum 10 % discount on the accommodation rate.
